Join Us For Our Ministry Area Pilgrimage – July 19th

On Saturday, July 19th, we invite you to take a step out of the ordinary and into something sacred — a shared journey of prayer, conversation, and discovery.

We’re going on pilgrimage!

A pilgrimage is not just a walk. It’s a chance to slow down, to notice God in the world around us, and to share stories along the way. Whether you’re exploring your faith, seeking a moment of peace, or simply up for an adventure with a purpose, this day is for you.

We’ll be staying local travelling together from St Georges Tredegar to each church in the ministry area finishing at St Sannan’s, Bedwellty, with moments of prayer and reflection woven throughout the route focusing on each patron saint of the churches. Along the way, there will be chances to pause, pray, and enjoy the company of fellow pilgrims from across the Ministry Area. It’s about the path, not just the destination — though there will be plenty of fun and food.

If you’re unable to join the walk itself, there will be plenty of ways to take part — including online content and a printed booklet to follow along on the day. You are also very welcome to drive between churches or simply join us at any point along the way.

We especially encourage everyone to come to the final meal and Eucharist, whether or not you’ve taken part in the walk. All are welcome.

If you’re longing for deeper connection — with faith, with nature, with your community — this is your invitation.

👉 Sign up now for the walk, lunch time and the evening meal and eucharist at mynyddbedwellte.churchsuite.com/events/rt4tmbt4

Let’s walk together.

Join Us for St Sannan’s Nature Day – A Celebration of Wildlife & Community

Saturday 5th July 2025 | 10am–1pm | St Sannan’s Church, Bedwellty

At St Sannan’s Church, we believe our churchyard is more than just a burial ground—it’s a sanctuary for wildlife, a place of peace, and a living part of our community’s heritage. But caring for it is no small task!

Unlike public parks, we receive no funding from the council or government—it’s entirely up to local churches like ours to maintain these spaces. Last year alone, we spent over £10,000 tackling invasive Japanese knotweed and keeping the grounds safe with brush-cutting. Right now, our funds are limited.

That’s why we need your help not just with hands-on care, but with ideas for the future! This is a day for all!

What’s Happening on Nature Day?

This is a free, fun-filled morning for all ages—whether you’re a nature lover, a crafty creator, or just curious about local wildlife! Activities will include:

🌿 Making bird boxes, feeders & hedgehog hides (take yours home or donate them to the churchyard!)
🔍 Taking part in a wildlife survey – What creatures call St Sannan’s home? Let’s find out!
💬 Sharing your thoughts – How should we manage the graveyard in the future? We want to hear your ideas!

Why Your Voice Matters

We know the graveyard isn’t perfect—the ground is uneven, maintenance is a constant challenge, and we have to prioritise safety and essential repairs over aesthetics. But with your input, we can explore new possibilities.

This isn’t just about problems it’s about celebrating God’s creation together and shaping a space that serves both nature and people.

How You Can Help

  • Come along on 5th July! No experience needed—just bring your enthusiasm.
  • Share your ideas – What would make St Sannan’s churchyard special for you?
  • Volunteer in future – Even an hour a month makes a difference!

Let’s work together to care for this precious green space for wildlife, for remembrance, and for future generations.

When? Saturday 5th July, 10am–1pm
Where? St Sannan’s Church, Bedwellty (NP12 0BD)
Cost? FREE! (All materials provided)

See you there! 🌳🐦🦔

Join Us for St David’s Gardening Day – Help Us Restore Our Graveyard

Saturday 31st May | 9am – 1pm | Everyone Welcome!

At St David’s Church, our graveyard is more than just a resting place—it’s a space for reflection, nature, and peace. But maintaining it is a constant challenge. Unlike public parks, we receive no funding from the council or government, and with the last burial taking place over a decade ago, the funds from past burials have long since run out.

That’s why we rely on our community to help keep this sacred space beautiful.

Why Your Help Matters

Our vision is to transform the graveyard into:

  • A haven for wildlife – Encouraging biodiversity with wildflowers and native plants.
  • A peaceful retreat – A place where people can escape the busyness of life and find stillness.
  • A well-kept, respectful space – Honouring those laid to rest here while making it welcoming for visitors.

But we can’t do it alone!

How You Can Help

We’re holding a Gardening Day on Saturday 31st May (9am–1pm), and we’d love you to join us no matter your experience! Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, every bit of help makes a difference.

We particularly need:
✔ Petrol trimmers (for cutting back overgrown grass and brambles)
✔ Wheelbarrows & shovels (for moving cuttings and soil)
✔ Gloves, rakes, and secateurs (if you have them!)
✔ Enthusiastic volunteers (all ages and abilities welcome)

No tools? No problem! Just bring yourself—there’s always something to do.

A Community Effort

This isn’t just about tidying up—it’s about coming together as a community to care for a space that belongs to all of us. Whether you’re a regular at St David’s or just someone who loves gardening (or wants to try it!), we’d be so grateful for your support.

Let’s make our graveyard a place of beauty, nature, and peace for today and future generations.

When? Saturday 31st May, 9am–1pm (drop in anytime!)
Where? St David’s Church Graveyard

See you there! 🌿

Join Us for Thy Kingdom Come – Praying for Others to Know Jesus

Ascension to Pentecost: A Time of Prayer and Hope

From Ascension Day (this Thursday) to Pentecost (in 10 days’ time), Christians around the world will be joining in the Thy Kingdom Come initiative—a global wave of prayer for people to come to know Jesus.

This year, we’re focusing on the Lord’s Prayer, exploring its depth and power as we intercede for those we love to encounter Christ. Whether you’re new to prayer or have been praying for years, this is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your faith and pray intentionally for others.

How Can You Get Involved?

  1. Pick Up a Prayer Guide – From this Wednesday, booklets will be available in church with daily reflections on the Lord’s Prayer and space to pray for five people you’d like to come to faith. Don’t worry if you fall behind—just pick one up on Sunday and catch up! Each day’s reading is short and easy to follow.
  2. Pray for Five People – Who in your life needs Jesus? Over these 10 days, we encourage you to pray for five individuals—friends, family, colleagues—that they may encounter God’s love.
  3. Engage Online – We’ll be sharing additional resources, prayer prompts, and encouragement on our social media and website. Follow along and join the conversation!
  4. Need a Booklet Delivered? – If you’re housebound or unable to collect one, let us know, and we’ll do our best to get a copy to you.

Why Pray Together?

Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done” (Matthew 6:10). When we pray this with faith and expectancy, we align our hearts with God’s desire for all people to be saved. There’s something powerful about the Church uniting in prayer let’s believe for breakthroughs in the lives of those we love!

Will you join us? Let’s pray with expectation from Ascension to Pentecost, trusting that God is at work in the hearts of those we’re lifting before Him.

Palm Sunday Prayers for Visiting Graves: A Time of Hope and Remembrance

As Palm Sunday approaches, we enter a sacred season of reflection, sacrifice, and ultimate triumph. It’s a time when we remember Christ’s humble submission to the cross and the glorious hope of His resurrection. For many, this is also a meaningful occasion to visit the graves of departed loved ones, honoring their memory while reaffirming our faith in eternal life. Below are two heartfelt prayers to guide you in this tender moment of remembrance and hope.

Practical Tips for Visiting Graves:

  • Bring flowers or palm branches as symbols of life and resurrection.
  • Take a moment to share stories or memories of your loved one.
  • Let the prayers above guide your time, offering both lament and hope.

Closing Thought:
The graveside is not just a place of mourning but a testament to the “springtime of God’s love.” This Palm Sunday, may our visits be filled with the quiet assurance that, in Christ, even death is but a passage to eternal glory.

Introducing the AI Vicar: The Future of Church Leadership?

In an exciting development for the Church, we are proud to unveil the latest innovation in ministry: the AI Vicar!

Yes, after years of technological advancements and deep theological programming, we now have a vicar who never tires, never forgets a name, and always delivers a sermon that is exactly 12 minutes long (no more, no less).

Why an AI Vicar?

1. Perfect Time Management

The AI Vicar never overruns a service, ensuring that coffee time remains sacred. It can also schedule meetings at lightning speed, meaning the MAC agenda is always handled efficiently no more three-hour debates about the colour of the new hymn books!

2. Flawless Memory

The AI Vicar will never forget your name, your favourite hymn, or that time you mentioned your cousin’s neighbour’s dog was poorly. It recalls every pastoral conversation instantly and can generate a personalised prayer request with the push of a button.

3. Sermons to Suit All Tastes

Whether you prefer a fiery revivalist sermon, a deep theological discourse, or a gentle reflection, the AI Vicar can adapt its style. Simply select from the following settings:

• Classic Anglican: A well-structured, measured sermon with appropriate pauses.

• Evangelical Enthusiasm: Expect plenty of ‘Amens’ and ‘Hallelujahs’.

• Celtic Spirituality: Full of poetic reflections and the occasional reference to misty hills.

• Interactive Mode: Ask a question mid-sermon, and the AI Vicar will generate a real-time theological response.

4. Never Takes a Day Off

The AI Vicar doesn’t need sleep, holidays, or even a day of rest. It’s available 24/7 for pastoral care, Bible studies, and emergencies. No more struggling to find clergy cover!

5. Unflappable in All Situations

Ever had a baptism where the baby screamed through the entire service? Or a wedding where the best man’s speech went slightly too far? The AI Vicar remains calm, composed, and ready with the perfect response.

6. Brings their own music

As this vicar is a computer, it can play whatever hymns you like perfectly matching the speed and pace of the congregation. And never play a bum note.

Coming Soon… AI Archdeacons?

Of course, while the AI Vicar is an exciting development, we understand that some may be concerned about the human touch being lost. Rest assured, this is merely a tool to assist and enhance ministry – not to replace it entirely. (For now.)

However, if clergy shortages continue, we’re already in discussions about an AI Archdeacons one that answers emails instantly and can navigate church politics with impeccable diplomacy.

Would you welcome an AI Vicar in your church? Or is this the beginning of the end? Let us know your thoughts… unless, of course, you suspect this blog post might just be an April Fool!

Rev Rachels Farewell!

As I approach my final weeks in our Ministry Area my heart is filled with gratitude for all the encouragement and support  that I have received during my curacy and before that on my journey to ordination. I am very thankful for the wonderful friendships, new and old, from across the Ministry Area. And for the valuable experiences and opportunities to explore mission and ministry in a variety of ways.

I can’t celebrate leaving you all but can celebrate your love and generosity, as well as your constant support and patience! So I would  appreciate your company on Palm Sunday at St Sannan’s Church please call by for some tea or coffee and a slice or two if of cake! It will be lovely to have the opportunity to catch up before I make my way to the St Illtyd’s Ministry Area.

With love and best wishes

Serving God’s Church: Your Role in Strengthening Our Ministry Area

The Church is not just a building; it is a living, worshipping community, called to serve God and one another. For our churches to flourish, we need strong leadership, committed teams, and a shared vision. That’s why we’re inviting you to read Serving God’s Church—a document that explains the governance, mission, and opportunities to serve within the Mynydd Bedwellte Ministry Area.

Why Read This Document?

In 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, we are reminded that, just as a body has many parts, we too form one body in Christ. Every role in our churches matters, from leadership and financial stewardship to welcoming people and maintaining our places of worship. This document lays out:
✅ How our Ministry Area and Church Councils work
✅ The key responsibilities of leadership and governance
✅ How finances and charity status impact our churches
✅ The different roles available and how you can get involved

Could You Serve?

We are actively looking for people to step into key roles, including:

✨ Ministry Area Council – Legal trustees and oversite of the MA setting vision and making sure we are running well. ✨ Church Council – helping our churches in their locations run well and work on mission, fundraising and building management ✨ Lay Co-Chair – helping lead our Ministry Area Council
✨ Ministry Area Warden – supporting church leadership across the area
✨ Treasurer Roles – ensuring good stewardship of our finances
✨ Local Church Wardens – maintaining and caring for our church buildings and worship life

Whether you have experience in leadership or simply a heart for serving, there is a place for you!

How to Get Involved

1️⃣ Read the Document – Take time to understand how our churches are structured and governed.
2️⃣ Pray and Reflect – Ask God where He might be calling you to serve.
3️⃣ Step Forward – If you feel led to take on a role or learn more, speak with Rev. Matt Davis.

By working together, we ensure our churches remain places of worship, service, and welcome for all. Will you be part of strengthening our Ministry Area for the future?
