At St Sannan’s Church, we believe our churchyard is more than just a burial ground—it’s a sanctuary for wildlife, a place of peace, and a living part of our community’s heritage. But caring for it is no small task!
Unlike public parks, we receive no funding from the council or government—it’s entirely up to local churches like ours to maintain these spaces. Last year alone, we spent over £10,000 tackling invasive Japanese knotweed and keeping the grounds safe with brush-cutting. Right now, our funds are limited.
That’s why we need your help not just with hands-on care, but with ideas for the future! This is a day for all!
What’s Happening on Nature Day?
This is a free, fun-filled morning for all ages—whether you’re a nature lover, a crafty creator, or just curious about local wildlife! Activities will include:
🌿 Making bird boxes, feeders & hedgehog hides (take yours home or donate them to the churchyard!)
🔍 Taking part in a wildlife survey – What creatures call St Sannan’s home? Let’s find out!
💬 Sharing your thoughts – How should we manage the graveyard in the future? We want to hear your ideas!
Why Your Voice Matters
We know the graveyard isn’t perfect—the ground is uneven, maintenance is a constant challenge, and we have to prioritise safety and essential repairs over aesthetics. But with your input, we can explore new possibilities.
This isn’t just about problems it’s about celebrating God’s creation together and shaping a space that serves both nature and people.
