Gathering as a Ministry Area – Join Us in 2025!

Gathering as a Ministry Area – Join Us in 2025!

As we step into 2025, we are excited to come together as a Ministry Area to worship, connect, and grow in faith. Ministry Area Services are a wonderful opportunity for all of us, from across our churches, to gather as one body in Christ. These services help us to strengthen our sense of community, deepen our understanding of scripture, and support one another in our faith journey.

This year, we have planned four special services at different churches in our Ministry Area. Each service will focus on a theme that helps us reflect on our faith and mission. On these dates, this will be the only service taking place across our churches, so we encourage everyone to come together in worship. These services will usually take place on the 5th Sundays of the year:

📅 March 23rd – St David’s, 10 AM
Coming Together in Prayer and Scripture
A time to unite in worship, listen to God’s word, and pray for one another.

📅 June 29th – St George’s, 10 AM
St Peter and Building the Kingdom of God Amongst Us
A reflection on how we, like Peter, are called to help build God’s kingdom here and now. BBQ afterwards!

📅 August 31st – St Sannan’s, 10 AM
Caring for God’s Creation
A service dedicated to stewardship of the earth and our responsibility as Christians to care for creation.

📅 November 30th – St Dingat’s, 10 AM
Awaiting Advent
As we enter the season of Advent, we take time to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ.

These gatherings are open to everyone – whether you attend church regularly or just want to explore faith in a welcoming environment. We would love to see you there!

🚗 Need a Lift?
We want to ensure that everyone can attend these special gatherings. If you need a lift to any of these services, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll do our best to arrange transport so that everyone can attend.

📢 Spread the Word!
We encourage you to come and invite anyone who might benefit from being part of our worship and fellowship. Let’s make these gatherings special by coming together in love and faith.

Lent And Easter Activites

As we enter the sacred season of Lent, we are invited to take time for reflection, repentance, and renewal. This journey through Lent prepares us to fully embrace the joy of Easter, celebrating Christ’s resurrection and the hope it brings to our lives. In the Mynydd Bedwellte Ministry Area, we offer various services, events, and small groups to help us engage with this season meaningfully.

Darkness – A Lenten Reflection

St Dingat’s Church | 9th March 2025 | 6PM

Lent is a season of reflection—a time to come before God with honesty, to acknowledge the struggles we face, and to seek His presence in the midst of them. At St Dingat’s Church, we invite you to join us for “Darkness”, a special service where we come together to meet the God who walks with us, even in life’s darkest moments.

This service is for everyone across the Mynydd Bedwellte Ministry Area—whether you’ve been coming to church all your life or have never stepped through the doors before. All are welcome.

Together, we will take time for:

  • Reflective prayer – Bringing our burdens before God and finding peace in His presence.
  • Meditation – Creating space for stillness, listening, and encountering God in the quiet.
  • Singing – Using music to lift our hearts and remind us that light shines in the darkness.

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and darkness can creep in. But even in our struggles, hope is not lost. We come together in Lent to seek the One who is always with us, guiding us through.

If you’d like to find out more, please get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.

We hope you will join us.

Rev Rachel Nelmes

From Bishop Cherry

Bishop Cherry is delighted to announce the appoint of Rachel Nelmes as Pioneer Priest in the St Illtyd Ministry Area.

Ordained in 2023 as a non-stipendiary priest, Rachel has been completing her curacy in the Mynydd Bedwellty Ministry Area whilst working for the DBF as Children’s and Families advisor. For the past 12 months she has been using her gifts and knowledge in Children’s and Schools ministry to undertake a pilot project in Abertillery, developing the relationship between the Church and local Schools. It was the learning from this project that helped inform our successful Growth Fund bid for Schools Engagement Pioneers.

With this new role Rachel will be able to develop these relationships to the next level by becoming embedded in the community and re-planting a congregation into St Michaels Church in Abertillery. A licencing service will be held after Easter.

From Rev Matt Davis – Ministry Area Leader

It is with mixed emotions that we announce Rev. Rachel is moving on to become a Pioneer in Abertillery at the end of her curacy.

We have been truly blessed by her gifts and talents over the past few years, and I am incredibly grateful for everything she has contributed to our community. Rev. Rachel possesses exceptional patience, gentleness, and love, demonstrating a genuine pastoral heart for those she serves. She leaves us with our heartfelt blessing and love.

I am confident that she will excel in her new role, bringing with her valuable knowledge from the area she has served for the last few years, as well as the skills she has developed with us. Her natural talent will undoubtedly lead to great things for God’s kingdom.

As a reminder, curates typically do not remain in the same place after completing their curacy, even though we may wish they could.

We will announce shortly a time to say goodbye to Rachel.

Supporting One Another in Times of Sickness

As a church, we are called to care for one another, especially during times of illness or at the end of life. The Mynydd Bedwellte Ministry Area is committed to ensuring that no one faces these moments alone. That’s why we have created the “In Times of Sickness” cards—simple card to help our congregations receive the spiritual and pastoral care they need when they need it most.

What Are These Cards For?

These cards provide an opportunity for you to express your wishes for pastoral support in times of sickness. Whether you find yourself unwell, hospitalized, or nearing the end of life, these cards ensure that your desires for spiritual care are communicated and acted upon on your behalf by a trusted person who you know.

How Do They Work?

  1. Fill in Your Wishes – Indicate whether you would like to be contacted by clergy if you are sick, in the hospital, or at the end of life.
  2. Share with a Trusted Loved One – Give the card to someone close to you who can reach out on your behalf if needed.
  3. Ensure Spiritual Care – By making your wishes known, you help us provide the support you and your family may need during difficult times.

Why Are These Cards Important?

In moments of illness, it can be challenging to communicate your spiritual needs. By filling out this card in advance, you ensure that you receive prayer, pastoral visits, or other support from the Ministry Area clergy. The churches of St David’s Rhymney, St Dingat’s New Tredegar, St George’s Tredegar, St Sannan’s Bedwellty, and St Paul’s Abertysswg are here to stand with you in faith and love.

How to Get a Card

You can collect a card from any of our churches or request one by contacting us directly. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at 01495 722672 or via email at contact@mynyddbedwellte.church.

God bless,

Weather affected church closers and Epiphany Online Service

We hope this message finds you safe and warm. Due to the severe weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to close the following churches this week for in-person services:

  • St Sannan’s, Bedwellty
  • St Paul’s, Abertysswg
  • St David’s, Rhymney

While we are saddened to pause our in-person gatherings, we want to ensure everyone’s safety during these dangerous conditions.

Join Us Online

We invite you to join us for an online service that you can watch from the comfort of your home:

This is a wonderful opportunity to come together in prayer and worship, even if we can’t be physically present with one another. If it seems improvised that’s because it is just go with the flow!

Need Assistance?

If you or anyone you know needs help during this time—whether it’s for groceries, medication, or just someone to talk to—please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. You can contact me directly. We are here to support you in any way we can.
